Ahon sa Hirap, Inc (A Microfinance NGO), in partnership with the Department of Health (DOH) Region VI, conducted a medical mission in Barangay Guintas, Hamtic, Antique, bringing essential healthcare services closer to ASHI members, senior citizens, and their families.

The initiative was spearheaded by ASHI through its Member and Community Services Department in Western Visayas, led by Ms. Laarnie Aquino. The activity was hosted by Western Visayas 4 Area, headed by Area Manager Mr. Rafael Bogoy, and was graced by the presence of ASHI President Ms. Mercedes Abad and Regional Manager Ms. Rosemarie Maray.

A total of 337 ASHI members and their families benefited from the medical mission, including 90 senior citizen members from three branches in Antique: 30 from Antique South Branch, 50 from Antique Southwest Branch, and 10 from Antique Southeast Branch.

The medical mission provided essential healthcare services to help address the medical needs of ASHI members, senior citizens, and their families.

Services offered included:

  • Medical Check-Ups – General medical consultations and health assessments.

  • Laboratory Services – Random Blood Sugar (RBS) testing, urinalysis, pregnancy testing, drug testing, and Complete Blood Count (CBC).

  • Free Medicines – Provision of medicines to help meet the healthcare needs of beneficiaries.

  • PhilHealth YAKAP Registration – Assistance with registration under the PhilHealth Yaman ng Kalusugan Program (YAKAP), which promotes access to primary healthcare services.

The medical mission was made possible through the collaboration of healthcare professionals from DOH Region VI, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Hamtic, and the Hamtic Rural Health Unit (RHU).

Representing DOH Region VI were Dr. Feman Rene Autajay and Dr. Orville John Ildesa, who contributed their medical expertise to the activity. They were joined by Dr. Ledesma, hired by the Municipality of Hamtic, who also provided medical services to the beneficiaries.

The support of the Hamtic RHU further strengthened the delivery of healthcare services, demonstrating the importance of collaboration among government healthcare institutions, local government, and community organizations. ASHI extends its sincere appreciation to the supportive Barangay Guintas officials for their cooperation, assistance, and valuable support in making the medical mission possible.

The successful conduct of the medical mission reflects how collaboration among ASHI, DOH Region VI, the Municipality of Hamtic, the Hamtic RHU, and the Barangay Guintas officials can help advance community health and wellness.

Through initiatives such as this medical mission, ASHI continues to strengthen its commitment to member welfare, community service, and accessible healthcare, helping build healthier and more empowered communities across Western Visayas.
