ASHI Marks 37 Years of Building Resilient and Sustainable Communities
In celebration of its 37th Anniversary, Ahon sa Hirap, Inc. (ASHI) commemorated this significant milestone from July 27–31, 2026, with the theme "Building Resilient and Sustainable Communities."
As part of the celebration, all 73 branches and the Head Office participated in Araw ng Kalikasan, an environmental initiative that promoted meaningful community action and environmental stewardship. Each branch organized activities that responded to the needs of their respective communities, including community clean-up drives, coastal clean-up activities, tree planting and growing, mangrove planting, and vegetable gardening.
The week-long celebration highlighted ASHI's continuing commitment to environmental sustainability while strengthening partnerships with members, local communities, and stakeholders.
By the Numbers
The 37th Anniversary celebration achieved remarkable milestones:
802 trees were planted.
110 mangrove trees were planted.
869 vegetable seedlings were planted.
692 sacks of garbage were collected.
30 gardening pots (ornamental plants) planted
140 communities benefited from the environmental activities.
9 trash bins and cleaning materials were donated to three elementary schools.
2,239 employees, members, volunteers, and community partners participated in the various activities.
Head Office Celebration
The Head Office held its Araw ng Kalikasan celebration on July 30, 2026, bringing together all Head Office staff, selected members from Matalatala 15, the Farmers' Association of Pangil Cluster, and representatives from Rizal East and Rizal Northeast Branches.
The celebration began with a Thanksgiving Mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Robert Reyes, setting a meaningful and grateful tone for the day's activities.
The afternoon program officially opened with a special performance by selected Head Office staff, followed by an inspirational message from Mrs. Mercedes Abad, ASHI President, emphasizing the organization's continuing mission of empowering communities while promoting environmental responsibility. A community dance presentation by the Head Office staff added energy and camaraderie to the celebration.
The event was further enriched by the presence of partners from the Land Bank of the Philippines, while selected members from Laguna Sta. Maria–Mabitac delighted the audience with special song and dance performances that showcased the vibrant spirit of the ASHI community.
A highlight of the program was an inspiring discussion by Dr. Leajim Villanueva, Regional Coordinator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Small Grants Programme, who spoke about the importance of tree planting and the collective responsibility of building resilient and sustainable communities.
Following the learning session, participants took part in a vegetable gardening activity, where 502 vegetable seedlings were planted as a symbol of ASHI's commitment to food security, environmental conservation, and sustainable livelihoods.
The celebration also recognized the outstanding performance and dedication of Development Officers, Accounts Officers, Branch Managers, and Branches whose exemplary service and achievements have significantly contributed to ASHI's continued success and impact.
As ASHI celebrates 37 years of empowering Filipino families, these collective efforts demonstrate that its mission extends far beyond financial inclusion. By protecting the environment, strengthening community partnerships, and promoting sustainable practices, ASHI continues to build resilient communities and create a brighter, more sustainable future for generations to come.
